Vermont Tax Credit for Commercial Solar Systems

Continuing my discussion of energy-efficiency tax credits at the local, state and federal levels, today I am highlighting an incentive unique to Vermont. It is the Business Solar Tax Credit, available for both business and individuals (http://www.dsireusa.org/incentives/incentive.cfm?Incentive_Code=VT31F&re=1&ee=1). The basic premises is that taxpayers making a business solar energy investment in Vermont are eligible to receive 100 percent of the amount of the Federal business solar tax credit as a credit against Vermont tax. This credit applies only for installations of solar energy equipment on Vermont business property. The real detail can be found here (http://www.state.vt.us/tax/pdf.word.excel/legal/tb/TB45.07232009.pdf) in the guidance issued by the Department. Oh and you'd also benefit from the exemption from sales tax for such systems that's been in place since 1999. Check out the planned installation at the City Market/Onion River Coop in Burlington.(http://7d.blogs.com/blurt/2009/12/city-market-coop-going-solar.html).
